Where did it all start with for Rarity Handbags?
For Jaqueline Burge, the story started from her rented flat in Cape Town in 2000, when a local South African farmer asked her if she could create something out of the beautiful natural materials that they would normally dispose of. So, Rarity grew from the idea to add value to springbok skins and she designed her first signature springbok collection, and by doing so pioneering this product in the global market.
Once launched, Jackie opened one of the first design studio’s of its kind in the trend-setting Woodstock district in Cape Town and with the aim of helping to grow the prominence of the South African design sector globally, and at the same time increase the social and economic opportunities for the marginalized producers and suppliers in South Africa.
